The Boulder Rugby Football Club was founded in 1966 by several University of Colorado graduates. The team was a charter member of the Eastern Rockies Rugby Football Union (ERRFU) founded in 1967. The union consisted of men’s and collegiate teams in Colorado and Wyoming. The first major competition that the team entered was the inaugural Aspen Ruggerfest in September, 1967. The Boulder Rugby Club became original members of the Western Rugby Union and USA Rugby at their beginnings in 1975. Boulder put their first high school team on the pitch in 1986 as one of the original members of the current Rugby Colorado organization.
